Community tours
Gambian palm wine tapping is a traditional, ancestral occupation primarily practiced by Bainunka men, who recently had the practice submitted for UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage recognition to safeguard it from decline.
The process involves climbers using a kajandak (a strap made of rope or leaves) to ascend palm trees and tap the sap just below the male flower stalk, attaching a gourd or bottle to collect the juice.
